At last, someone hit the nail on the head and asked how we get from here to there. I advise an Internet-based global referendum to show that a global mandate exists for the historic goal of one global democracy, followed by 194 (or so) government-run formal national referendums with UN observers/scrutineers to lock in the legitimacy of the decision to create a directly-elected democratic world parliament (assuming these referendums pass!). To support this plan, go to VoteWorldParliament.org, cast your online vote, and recruit your friends and family to follow your lead. I highly recommend reading the “13 Page PDF Article Summarizing the VWP Program,” which is clickable from the front page of our VWP site.
PS Truly excellent work, Peter Schurman. I have alerted our president, Ted Stalets, of the good work you are doing, and suggested that he contact you about cooperative possibilities between our two organizations.
Jim, you raise an excellent question. In my view the key to getting from here to there, for now, is movement-building, to raise the level of popular awareness that One Global Democracy is a feasible, realistic, and sensible alternative to our current system. I think we need to do a lot of this before we’ll be able to win policy changes through voting. But with crises upon us in so many areas, and with the accelerating rate of change, this may take less time than we typically imagine.
One Global Democracy is now focused on making a documentary film covering the main arguments etc. You can read more about the project here:

Thank you for all you, Ted, and others are doing to advance this idea as well.
And thanks for the compliment, too.
